Q1 : interview need time scheduled and editing
Q3: podcast
Hello everyone, and welcome to this episode where I’ll be reflecting on how my production skills developed throughout this film project. I’m going to talk about everything from planning and filming to editing, teamwork, and the challenges we faced along the way.
Starting Out
When we first began this project, I was still at a beginner level with filmmaking. I understood basic ideas like framing a shot and recording video, but I didn’t have much experience using manual camera settings or planning out shots properly. As we moved through the project, my skills improved through research, trial and error, and working with others.
Planning and Research
Before filming, our team spent time planning the story and researching different film techniques. We watched examples of comedy-horror films and looked at how suspense can be built through pacing and camera work. We created a rough script and storyboard to help guide the filming process. This planning helped us understand how to combine comedy with horror and gave us a clearer direction.
Team Collaboration and Ideas
Working as a team was a big part of this project. Everyone shared ideas, and we made decisions together about characters, dialogue, and the overall mood of the film. There were times when we disagreed, but talking through our ideas helped us improve the story. For example, we decided to add more suspense earlier in the film to make the ending more powerful.
Production Process
During production, I began using basic filming tools and gradually moved toward more advanced techniques. We started by filming with simple camera settings, but we quickly learned how to adjust things like ISO, shutter speed, and focus to get better shots. Learning these manual settings helped improve the look of our footage.
Camera and Composition Skills
I also learned different types of camera shots and movements, such as wide shots to show setting and close-ups to show emotion. We experimented with camera angles to make scenes more interesting. Composition techniques, like framing subjects off-center and using depth, helped make our shots more professional.
Lighting and Sound
Lighting was another challenge. We learned how to use shadows to build tension in horror scenes and how natural light can affect mood. We didn’t have professional lighting equipment, so we used what we had creatively, like positioning actors near lamps or windows.
Props, Locations, and Casting
Choosing locations was important for creating the right atmosphere. We selected areas around a house that matched the story. Props were kept simple but meaningful, helping define the characters and setting. Casting was based on who fit the characters best and who was comfortable acting in front of the camera.
Editing and Post-Production
In post-production, I learned how to organize footage, edit scenes together, and add sound effects. Editing was sometimes challenging, especially syncing audio and cutting clips smoothly. I also learned how to use different fonts and titles to match the film’s tone.
Challenges and Problem Solving
We faced several technical challenges, such as shaky footage, unclear sound, and time constraints. To fix these issues, we stabilized the camera, re-recorded audio where possible, and stayed organized during editing. Each challenge taught me something new and helped improve my problem-solving skills.
Conclusion
Overall, this project helped me grow from a beginner to a more confident filmmaker. I learned about camera work, teamwork, storytelling, and technical skills. The process showed me how important planning, communication, and creativity are in filmmaking. Even though there were challenges, the experience helped me improve and understand what it takes to create a short film from start to finish.
Thank you for listening.
